Red Ball
Express

The time is 1944, the place is war-torn France. The Allies are poised for the great drive to liberate France from the Nazis. The troops, tanks, and guns are ready and waiting. But unless the vital supplies keep flowing in, the Allied armies will ground to a halt. Can you indeed "Win the war by Christmas of '44"?

Red Ball Express is a unique combination of a trucking game and a wargame. You only indirectly control the combat units, but your decisions control the course of the war in 1944, because even Patton doesn't move forward without gas.

Download New Red Ball Express

Red Ball Express is a XNA 4.0 game, so it needs .NET 4 and the XNA Redistributable installed before the game is run. If you have them from installing something else, then you can skip the first 2 steps. If you're not sure, do the steps anyway.

When presented a choice of Save or Run, choose Run. If the installers ask questions, pick the positive choice: Accept, Yes, etc.

  1. Download then Run .NET 4 Installer from Microsoft
  2. Download then Run XNA 4.0 Redistributable Installer from Microsoft
  3. Download Red Ball Express Installer (Windows 10)  or   Download Red Ball Express Installer (Windows 7)

As always, you should run a virus check on any software you download from the internet. It is best to try the Windows 10 version first, it is the latest compile. If that doesn't work, then try the Windows 7 version.

Download Old Red Ball Express

  1. Create a temp directory to store this file in.

  2. Download original zip file - Win 95 era zip file
  3. Download recent zip file - Zipped under Win 7

  4. Unzip the downloaded file .

  5. Run the setup program to actually install the game. It will prompt you for the directory to install in. Your "install directory" can be c:\SWB\redball or whatever else you choose.

  6. NOTE: If you run the game from the Launch menu at the end of the install, it will run okay, but will be in the wrong directory for saves. Just use the controls in the save menu to put you in c:\SWB\redball or wherever.

Clean up and Enjoy

  1. Remove the temp directory and it's contents.

  2. Click Start, then Programs, then Redball to play.
